Firia Labs was born out of our passion and commitment to ensure that all students have access to real world computer programming learning opportunities. Our focus is to assist teachers and district leadership in moving students from block-based coding to learning Python in standard computer programming courses as well as cross-curricular experiences.

We believe that as early as age nine, students are ready to move away from block-based coding and to start learning Python, industries most in demand language. The Firia Labs Python Pathway was developed to provide students the ability to acquire and build Python programming skills while improving academic and career readiness. Our curriculum is designed to improve student engagement and reinforce 21st century skills while engaging students with physical computing projects using CodeX, CodeBot, or our Virtual CodeBot along with our CodeSpace platform and curriculum.

Firia Labs' CodeX provides middle school students in-depth experience with coding and exposure to fundamental computer science principles, in a project-based learning environment. With just a few lines of Python code students will program the CodeX to light LEDs, display cool pixel graphics, and more from the built-in sensors. Throughout our Wyoming State CS aligned course, students will gain knowledge and skill with computing systems, algorithms, and programming.

The next step in the Firia Labs Python Pathway is our Python with Robots which uses the physical CodeBot.  CodeBot is the first educational robot purpose-built for learning Python programming. This 'bot puts the focus on coding, with built-in sensors and programmable controls for endless projects and learning opportunities.  Students will build upon the Python skills they learned while using CodeX as they continue their computer science education while they move forward along CTE pathways.

Firia Labs Python with Virtual Robotics (Virtual CodeBot) curriculum for high school students was developed to build upon Python skills, improve CTE pathway completer status, and to help students earn an industry recognized certification.
Python programming will be done in the virtual world with our powerful 3D robotics simulator. Students will complete challenging missions in a virtual environment with realistic physics while learning code to control motors, LEDs, and other peripherals on CodeBot.

Certification is not the only outcome; it is one of the outcomes possible when adopting Firia Labs learning resources for your students. The primary outcome is that students will have developed a high level of Python skills that will allow them to leverage these skills for additional education and/or employment.

In addition to supporting the State of Wyoming’s computer science goals for students, Firia Labs offer teacher professional development. The purpose of the PD is to up skill teachers on the Firia Labs Python curriculum. while providing them experience with Python coding.

PD sessions are full day, hands-on training sessions either in person or virtual. Attendees will be provided access to the Firia Labs teacher resources and learn how to use these resources for student success. Participation will be a hands-on learning experience with Python and Firia Labs' physical computing device CodeX or CodeBot. At the end of this session, teachers that are new to Python will have the confidence needed to implement Firia Labs in their classes. Experienced teachers will benefit as well by building on their prior coding experience.

Firia Labs' standard in person teacher PD sessions:

·       Session one: introduce teachers to
o   Firia Labs teacher and student resources
o   Strategies for engaging students
o   CodeX or CodeBot physical computing device
o   Hands-on python coding
·       Session two: mid-year upskilling to
o   Learn best practices
o   Review teacher dashboards and student progress
o   Expand learning on Firia Labs remixes
o   Learn more advanced Python skills and adding peripherals
